What makes some cats so hard to manage? Which insulin and diet should we start with? What data is there to support these decisions? Is remission always the goal? Performing and interpreting glucose curves (manually or using a Flash device) provides useful information. Performing blood glucose curves is of great value in helping to manage many cats with diabetes. A curve helps one understand how an individual interacts with a particular type (and dose) or insulin and helps determine best type of insulin as well as how to make dose adjustments in a patient.
This session will go over how to perform and interpret curve what is important to understand about managing cats with diabetes and how to perform a glucose curve manually or with an interstitial monitoring (Flash) device. However, performing curves isn’t appropriate for every client. The goals of therapy differ with different patients and different clients.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:- Duration of insulin and frequency needed.
- The time and level of the nadir/peak effect of insulin.
- Whether type of insulin being used is appropriate based on glucose differential.
- Whether and how to adjust the insulin dose.
- How diabetes can be managed in a less intensive manner.
