Course Information:
Do you look at an ECG strip and second guess what type of arrhythmia you are seeing? Do you question whether you should voice your concerns to the doctor and get treatment options ready? Do you feel confused by ventricular vs. supraventricular arrhythmias and why they might be treated differently? This intermediate-level course will review common arrhythmias and how to identify them. We will discuss the impact of arrhythmias on cardiac output and the cardiovascular system and how this impacts our treatment decisions. We will review the pharmacology of cardiac medications, specifically anti-arrhythmic medications, to better understand why and when we should reach for these.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand and discuss the different classes of anti-arrhythmic medications.
  • Identify key features of ECG waveforms to help distinguish ventricular from supraventricular arrhythmias.
  • Identify treatment options for common arrhythmias encountered in companion animals.
Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VSPN CE course will be open for enrollment to veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, veterinary teams, etc. - actively interested in Arrhythmias and Treatment.

RACE Accreditation: This program has been RACE approved for 3 hours of continuing education credit for veterinary technicians/technologists in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval. (20-926519)
