Behavior issues are seen in practices on a daily basis. From litterbox issues to creating a better environment for our canine patients; behavior can affect many facets of what we do day to day in practice. This conference on Saturday, June 26, 2021, will cover many feline and behavior issues often seen in clinical practice. This is a one-day event, with four 75-minute sessions presented in webinar format. You must attend to earn a certificate of participation.

Participants will have access to the abstracts for each presentation 1 week prior to the event. There are no library materials or end of course test associated with this event. You must be a VIN or VSPN member to enroll.

I peed on this: Litterbox Basics and Feline Elimination Issues         
Presenter: Rachel Lees RVT, KPA-CTP, VTS (Behavior)

Objectives: After attending this session, attendees will: 

  • Understand the most up to date information on litter box basics such as box preferences, litter type, box placement, litter height, etc.
  • Recognize the difference between feline house soiling and feline spraying and how to discuss treatment with owners
  • Acknowledge if there is a potential medical condition vs. behavioral issue
  • Understand when elimination cases should be referred to a veterinary behavior professional

Lucifer the Cat: Addressing Feline Aggression and Handling in the Veterinary Clinic
Presenter: Presenter: Rachel Lees RVT, KPA-CTP, VTS (Behavior)

Objectives: After attending this session, attendees will:        

  • Understand feline body language and see early warning signs of fear, stress, and anxiety before we get to an aggressive display
  • Discuss handling suggestions and the newest recommendations for feline handling
  • Be able to examine ways to create a positive association with veterinary hospitals including carrier training, happy visits, and using food for examinations and veterinary procedures

Puppy Socialization: Is it really necessary?

Objectives: After attending this session, attendees will:

  • Learn and understand why socialization of puppies is necessary
  • Be able to teach clients how they can socialize puppies
  • Understand how the lack of socialization can affect canine behavior as an adult

    Canine Enrichment: More than just food puzzles

    Objectives: After attending this session, attendees will:

    • Define what enrichment is
    • Learn various types of enrichment
    • Be able to understand why enrichment is important for patients at home and in the clinic
