Course Information:
Local anesthetic drugs are considered the quintessential analgesic, uniquely capable of blocking 100% of pain perception. Loco-regional anesthetic techniques (nerve blocks) provide a rapid onset of analgesia, work synergistically with other analgesics, and enable reduced inhalant concentrations while improving patient recoveries. Clients have come to expect pain management from veterinary facilities, and adding loco-regional anesthetic techniques can be a simple and profitable way to augment patient care. Numerous loco-regional anesthetic techniques will be discussed, including detailed instructions (via video demonstrations) on how to perform each technique. Techniques discussed include brachial plexus, BIER, RUM (ring), and intratesticular blocks, epidural analgesia, and much more!
- Benefits of using locoregional anesthetics, including indications and contraindications.
- Understand local anesthetic drugs mode of action, and identify potential complications associated with their use.
- Describe how to perform each of the pain management techniques – video demonstrations will be provided
