Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate level course is for all levels of veterinary staff interested in canine parvovirus, its pathophysiology, nursing care, workplace safety, and client education.
VSPN CE Course: This course is RACE approved for veterinary technicians only.
This intermediate level course is designed to cover all aspects of nursing care for canine parvovirus patients. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss both the complex pathophysiology of this disease, as well as the high level nursing care these patients require. This course is best suited for staff members who have experience caring for these patients and wish to expand their knowledge, as well as those with little experience wishing to obtain the knowledge necessary to provide excellent care to these critically ill patients.
This course consists of two (2) one hour (60) minute Real Time Sessions, supplemental library materials, interactive message board discussions, a mandatory end-of-course test, and may include online multiple choice quizzes (after each Real Time Session). Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to
- discuss canine parvovirus pathophysiology.
- explain how these patients are at risk for systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and sepsis.
- outline common diagnostic techniques and their usefulness.
- prepare a comprehensive nursing care and monitoring plan.
Course materials will be available in the course library prior to each Real Time Session (RTS).
There are no required textbooks for this course.
