Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first Real Time Session. Level and Prerequisites: This basic course is designed to provide an overview of pediatric care (puppies and kittens), including important pediatric wellness visit topics, vaccination protocols, and common health conditions.
VSPN CE Course: Open to all veterinary support staff. This course has been RACE approved for veterinary technicians only.(22-16940) The Veterinary Information Network (VIN) is RACE Provider #22.

Course Description:
Appropriate pediatric care and client education is critical part of companion animal practice. It helps set the stage for lifelong health, enhances the bond between owner and pet, and helps avoid common preventable diseases. This course will discuss important topics that need to be covered during wellness visits (such as diet selection, behavior, and husbandry), vaccination and deworming protocols, and common health conditions encountered during the pediatric period.

This course consists of two (2) Real Time Sessions of one hundred and twenty (120) minutes each, supplemental library materials, interactive message board discussions, a mandatory end-of-course test, and may include online multiple choice quizzes (after each Real Time Session). Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Instructors:
Thomas Hansen is a graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and works in both a general practice and an emergency practice in the San Francisco East Bay area. He is currently working towards becoming boarded in canine and feline practice (ABVP).

Course Outline:
Week 1 (Real Time Session May 5): The Pediatric Visit
Content: The first week will consist of an overview of important topics to cover during pediatric visits. Subjects will include diet selection, behavior, husbandry, vaccines, and common owner questions and concerns.

Week 2 (Real Time Session May 12): Pediatric Health Concerns
Content: Common pediatric health concerns will be covered. An overview on pathophysiology, clinical signs, diagnosis, and management/treatment will be provided.

CE Credits: 4

Tuition: $80 ($72 early bird special if enrolled by April 14, 2015)

* Students currently enrolled in and taking at least 2 classes or 5 units at an AVMA accredited or CAAHT approved Veterinary Technician Program may be eligible to receive a 50% discount off the regular rate for this course (upon verification of student status).
*To ensure participants are ready and prepared for classes, enrollment will close at 5 PM ET on Tuesday May 5, 2015, or when the maximum number of participants is reached.

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
  3. Each person is individually responsible for his/her own registration. To ensure that all information received is secure and correct, please do not enroll for a course on behalf of another individual.
