Level and Prerequisites: This basic course is designed for veterinary technicians and assistants that have been promoted to a management position or would like to pursue management in the future
VSPN CE Course: Open to veterinarians, veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, veterinary teams, etc. This course is approved by RACE for veterinary technicians/technologists (RACE program #22-29928). This course is approved by VHMA for CVPM credit. (VHMA program # 14-01)

Course Description:
Are you a lead technician or in middle management at your clinic? Do you want to be? Do you have previous management experience? We will be examining the path to become a lead technician, how to manage a team, how to perform human resource functions, how to create a productive clinic culture and how to work with coworkers and upper management. You will be given tools and resources to transition to your role as lead technician easier. You will have the opportunity to learn tips and tricks for the difficult situations that will inevitably come up in the clinic. The class will also give us all an opportunity to brainstorm the situations we have encountered as technical leads.

Week 1 (Real Time Session August 9): Rise to Leadership and Your Role
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Week 2 (Real Time Session August 16): Creating Your Culture and Your Team
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Week 3 (Real Time Session August 23): Day-to-Day Operations
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Week 4 (Real Time Session August 30): Keeping Your Team on Track
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Instructor:
Kelly Lynn Cronin is a twenty five year veteran of the veterinary field. She holds a Veterinary Technician Specialty in emergency and critical care, a Masters of Business Administration and a Professional in Human Resources Certification. She has had the opportunity to lead a variety of veterinary teams in a variety of clinics from large emergency teams to small day practice teams. She is responsible for setting the pricing structure and monitoring pricing for multiple veterinary hospitals, for leading the hospital group in human resources, staffing, budgeting, contracts, benefits management, inventory and special events. She has consulted on veterinary topics for a variety of hospitals including small animal, mixed practice, specialty and emergency clinics. She has spoken both nationally and internationally on management, marketing, human resources, starting clinics, inventory, emergency and critical care and a wide variety of other topics.

Total CE Credit: 6

* Students currently enrolled in and taking at least 2 classes or 5 units at an AVMA accredited or CAAHT approved Veterinary Technician Program may be eligible to receive a 50% discount off the regular rate for this course (upon verification of student status).

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
  3. Each person is individually responsible for his/her own registration. To ensure that all information received is secure and correct, please do not enroll for a course on behalf of another individual.

*Note: "This program 22-29928 is approved by the AAVSB RACE to offer a total of 0.00 CE Credits (0.00 max) being available to any one veterinarian: and/or 6.00 Veterinary Technician CE Credits (6.00 max). This RACE approval is for the subject matter categories of: Category Three: Non-Scientific-Practice Management/Professional Development using the delivery method of Interactive-Distance. This approval is valid in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE; however, participants are responsible for ascertaining each board's CE requirements. RACE does not "accredit" or "endorse" or "certify" any program or person, nor does RACE approval validate the content of the program." This course has been approved for continual education units toward CVPM requirements through VHMA (#14-01).

Course withdrawal and refund policy: A complete refund of the paid course price will be issued when your withdrawal request is received prior to the listed start date of the course.
