Course RTS Times in Your Area: World Clock Converter Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate course will be open to veterinarians actively interested in an overview of respiratory, musculoskeletal disease and orthopedics, gastroenterology, dentistry and behavior information. This course is the fourth of six modules in the Organ System Pathophysiology and ABVP Core Examination review series. The MULT207-1018: Pathologic Basis of Disease and the MULT208-0219: Principles of Medicine courses are recommended prerequisites.

The fourth of six modules in the Organ System Pathophysiology and ABVP Core Examination review series, this course is designed to cover the pathophysiological basis of disease in small animals based on pathophysiological and discipline-specific concepts. Clinical examples will be used to illustrate these concepts. The course can be used as a portion of the preparation for the ABVP Core examination, but it is not designed as a test-preparation course. The instructors do not have access to the questions. Also, material in this course may be more current than that examination. However it will allow those preparing for the examination to work systematically through different topics over the course of a year, accomplishing a broad review. The emphasis will be on pathophysiology, serving as a foundation for good case management. It should be noted that these courses are not designed specifically as a preparation for test taking. The instructors do not have access to information on the question types. Furthermore, the questions used on the examination may be a few years behind the current knowledge and practice, whereas the course will strive to be more current. We recommend using the course to:
- keep progressing through the topics so all topics will have been studied prior to the exam and
- provide participants with feedback on their strongest and weakest topics to guide their individual exam specific preparations.

Margie Scherk graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1982. In 1986 she opened Cats Only Veterinary Clinic in Vancouver, Canada practicing there until 2008. She achieved ABVP Board certification in feline practice in 1995 and published several clinical trials whilst in practice. She has written numerous book chapters and is an active international speaker as well as enjoying teaching on-line. She is co-editor of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery. Margie has served extensively in the American Association of Feline Practitioners as well other veterinary organizations. Her interests include all things feline, but in particular, analgesia, the peculiarities of the feline digestive system and enabling more positive interactions with cats. Adam Honeckman is a board certified internist with a special interest in immune-mediated hematologic diseases and cytology. He has published a review article on immune-mediated hematologic disease and has previously lectured on immune-mediated hemolytic anemia as well as cytology. Debbie Calnon has joined Dr Kersti Seksel to teach a number of VIN behavior courses. She also collaborates with Kersti teaching the Distance Education course in Behavioral Medicine for the Centre of Veterinary Education at the University of Sydney and in writing chapters for behavior texts. Debbie enjoys teaching behavior topics to veterinarians, veterinary nurses, trainers and other groups interested in small animal behavior. She is passionate about promoting the importance of behavioral medicine to the veterinary profession. Debbie values the opportunity to share ideas and experiences on VIN and appreciates the benefits of being part of the supportive VIN community. Kersti Seksel is a registered veterinary specialist in behavioral medicine in Australia, New Zealand, USA and Europe. She works sees behaviour cases in Sydney, her main base as well the rest of Australia. She teaches the Distance Education course in Behavioral Medicine for the Centre of Veterinary Education at the University of Sydney, is an adjunct senior lecturer at Charles Sturt University in Australia, presents education courses all over the world in behavioral medicine, and writes for scientific journals, textbooks, as well as popular magazines. She is a regular presenter in the media and currently chairs the Animal Welfare Advisory Council for NSW Government and loves being part of the wider VIN community. Steve Holmstrom was one of the two original VIN Dental Consultants. He has co-authored the textbook which the course is based on, Veterinary Dental Techniques, which is in its 3rd edition and in 4 languages. He has also authored Veterinary Dentistry for the Technician and Office Staff and edited two editions of Veterinary Clinics of North America. Jennifer Ginn Foy graduated from Tufts University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She completed a small animal rotating internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital in Colorado in 2006, then completed a residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of Wisconsin in 2009. She earned her board certification in small animal internal medicine in 2009. She was a clinical instructor and research fellow at the University of Wisconsin following residency. Since then, she has been in private practice in Colorado and most recently Arizona. She spends her free time enjoying the great outdoors with her family. Total CE Credit: 16
