Course Information:
Learners will explore relevant physiology, logical diagnostic investigations, and appropriate therapies for hyperadrenocorticism and hypoadrenocorticism in the field of emergency/critical care and internal medicine that affect cats and dogs.

To earn a certificate of completion the participant must complete all learning modules and score 80% or better on the end-of-course test. Completion of the course will take a minimum of 175 minutes. Participants must complete the participation requirements by April 30, 2025 to be eligible for a certificate.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • To understand relevant pathophysiology of hyperadrenocorticism.
  • To review logical diagnostic investigation for hyperadrenocorticism patients.
  • To discuss appropriate therapies for patients with hyperadrenocorticism.
  • To understand the pre-pill cortisol protocol.
  • To emphasize appropriate Treatment of hyperadrenocorticism patients using practical cases.
  • To discuss concurrent management of hyperadrenocorticism and diabetes mellitus using practical cases.
  • To understand relevant pathophysiology of hypoadrenocorticism.
  • To review logical diagnostic investigation for hypoadrenocorticism patients.
  • To discuss appropriate therapies for patients with hypoadrenocorticism.


Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VIN CE Self Study course is open for enrollment to Veterinarians interested in hyperadrenocorticism and hypoadrenocorticism. This course is open to VIN members only.
Credit Approval: This non-interactive course is approved for 3 hours of continuing education credit by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 20-931897)

Module 1: Hyperadrenocorticism Diagnosis and Management
Total Time: 82 minutes
Video: 82 minutes
Description: This module will review relevant pathophysiology, diagnostic approaches, and appropriate therapies for hyperadrenocorticism. This includes case studies and the management of concurrent morbidities.

Module 2: Work Through a Variety of HAC cases
Total Time: 37 minutes
Video: 37 minutes
Description: This module will work through various case studies, and show a variety of approaches, and variations of cushingoid presentations.

Module 3: Hypoadrenocorticism A Practical Approach to the Great Pretender
Total Time: 46 minutes
Video: 46 minutes
Description: This module will review relevant pathophysiology, diagnostic approaches, and appropriate therapies for hypoadrenocorticism.

Module 4: End of Course Test
Total Time: 10 minutes
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.
