intermediate course will be open to veterinarians and students interested in biostatistics.

Course Information:
A series of presentations examining basic aspects of biostatistics in
veterinary (and human) medicine. The course aims to provide clinicians
with better understanding of what types of tests are chosen for different
data, the types of data that can be analyzed, how data can and should be
presented. These skills will help make clinicians more critical of the
scientific literature they read. Relatively "math-free".
Clinicians will be provided with real-world examples from the literature
and introduced to tools for performing basic statistical analyses.
Week 1 (Real Time Session July 30, 2018):
Normality and P-Values

- Assess normality and understand why it is important
- Understand P-values, how they are used and abused
Week 2 (Real Time Session August 6, 2018):
Confidence Intervals, Sample Size, Power Analysis

- Understand confidence intervals, sample sizes and power analysis
- Compare groups with statistical test
Week 3 (Real Time Session August 13, 2018):
Diagnostic Test Analysis, Method Comparisons

Week 4 (Real Time Session August 20, 2018):
Survival Analysis, Regression and Correlation Analysis

Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- Understand survival analysis
- Understand regression and correlation analysis
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Presenter:
Mark Rishniw graduated from the School of Veterinary Science,
University of Melbourne in 1987. He completed his MS in veterinary science
in 1994 at Washington State University. He also completed a residency in
cardiology at the University of California at Davis in 1996. He was Chief
of Cardiology at Cornell University from 1997 to 2000. He completed a PhD
in Physiology in 2009. He has taught courses on biostatistics to students
and clinicians at Cornell and in Italy.
