High frequency ultrasound scanner (Dermcup--Atys Medical, France), using frequencies 16-25 MHz, penetrating 6 to 12 mm was used as an experimental diagnostic tool at the Dermatology unit of Faculty Veterinary Hospital in addition to traditional diagnostic approach (clinical observation, skin scrapings, cytology, histopathology, allergy tests etc.). Clinical cases of atopy, demodectic folliculitis, furunculosis, sebaceous gland adenoma, plasmocytoma and dirofilariasis (Dirofilaria repens) are presented. It is probably the first time that high frequency ultrasound has been used for such a purpose in veterinary medicine.
