Access Issues

The TWO most common solutions for site access problems:

  1. CLEAR YOUR BROWSER CACHE AND COOKIES (Temporary Internet Files and Offline Content):
    • For instructions see:

    • This is a highly recommended procedure for everyone especially if you surf the Internet a lot or you get a lot of emails. DO THIS WEEKLY. This step will not affect your favorites or any website addresses that you have saved.
    • If you have never done this, it may take several minutes to finish.
    • What is CACHE? Everytime you go out to a website, click to a new page, view something new, or receive email with pop ups or attachments your computer saves it all. This takes up working memory and causes problems when you want to open something intensive like a chat window or a web tour.

NOTE: It is always best to close all other working programs while doing anything interactive such as a chat/rounds, or attending an online class. This includes instant messengers, email programs, news tickers, facebook, twitter, and any other running program that takes up your bandwidth.

  2. SECURITY/FIREWALLS
    • Run the Test Flash Connection to FlashComPorts.
If the RTMP 1935 port fails, chances are you have a firewall blocking Flash content.
    • Check your security settings (firewalls) found under the "Internet Options" of your control panel. You need to have those set to access the beta.vspn.org and beta.vin.com websites. Once you've done this, reboot your computer and try accessing again.
    • You may also have to check the settings in a third party firewall, such as Norton Internet Security, MacAfee Firewall and ZoneAlarm. Consult the manufacturers’ website for setup and details.
    • If you are accessing through a school, public, or work computer, there may be security and firewall settings in place to help keep the institution from being damaged. Check with your IT person to see what needs to be done.

Emails

Each VIN/VSPN member must be able to receive email from the @vspn.org and @vin.com email address domains. This is our major form of communication with participants. It is highly recommended that personal email addresses are used rather than clinic/hospital/school email addresses.

  • You can set your email programs to specifically allow receipt of those emails utilizing either the TOOLS or ACCOUNTS sections of your email program.
  • You may wish to sign up for a free email account if you have any trouble receiving emails thru a .gov or a .edu email address.
  • Be sure to always update your profile via MyVIN or MyVSPN, or email us with any changes to your email, work or home address, or phone numbers. We can only contact you if we have current information.
