Acupuncture is used to treat hemodynamic alterations, such as myocardial ischemia, arrhythmias and hypotension. Neiguan (Pc 6) is an acupoint localized on the thoracic member, and Shuigou (VG 26) is localized between the nasal orifices, with an anti-shock action, and both stimulated induce improvement on cardiac contractility and blood pressure in dogs. It was aimed with this study to evaluate the effects of electrical stimulation of the acupoints Pc 6 and VG 26 on cardiorespiratory parameters in dogs submitted to acute hemorrhage. Ten dogs were anesthetized with isoflurane and submitted to acute hemorrhage by removal of 35 mL/kg b.w. The dogs were divided in two groups: GVGxGPc (n = 5): stimulus on both VG 26 and Pc 6 acupoints, simultaneously; CG (n = 5): false acupoints stimulus. Electrical stimulation started 30 minutes after blood removal. The recorded variable were Heart rate (HR), electrocardiographic parameters, mean arterial pressure (MAP), venous central pressure (VCP), peripheral venous pressure (PVP), respiratory frequency (f) and rectal temperature (T). Variable were recorded before hypovolemia induction (Mbasal), immediately after blood removal (M0), 30 minutes after blood removal (M30-before electrical stimulation start); After electrical stimulation started, variable were recorded every 10 minutes, for 40 minutes (M40, M50, M60 and M70). Immediately after M70, each animal had the blood re-infused, at 10mL/kg/hour. A multivariate statistical analysis was performed (P < 0.05). Differing from control animals, dogs from GVCxGPc group presented a continuous increase of MAP after 30 minutes of hypovolemia induction (M30) (P < 0.05), with normal values for VCP, PVP and electrocardiographic parameters. It is concluded that Pc 6 and VG 26 electrical stimulation induces cardiorespiratory stability in dogs submitted to acute hemorrhage.
