Introduction: The use of the hook in the ovary hysterectomy in dogs and cats of early age

Antecedents:

 In the State of Puebla a program of sterilization in early age exists.

 From year 2002 to now, within this program, 22,862 sterilizations have been made in early age.

 This represents 33% of sterilizations ovary hysterectomies made in the State of Puebla.

 The program counts with the participation of 40 surgeons.

 The used doses are:

 ketamine of 8-10 mg-kg im

 xilacina of 25-50 mg-kg im

Material:

 Hydrochlorate of xilacina

 Ketamine

 Hook for sterilization

 Material for surgery

 Surgical instruments

 Absorbable and no absorbable sutures

 Antibiotic

 Healing

Benefits:

 The hook technique avoids the manipulation of internal organs

 The incision is so small that it allows a quick recovery

 The healing is less traumatic

 Less complications are generated

 This technique modifies the belief that the surgery must be made before of the first mammal multiparous

Conclusions:

Sterilization in early age:

 It avoids the accidental reproduction of the species

 It improves the quality of life of the mascots and the population

 Aid to the diminution of zoonosis diseases

 It avoids the formation of packs reducing the risks of aggressions to the community

 Aid to better acceptance of the female mascots

 It reduces the number of left litters females

 It reduces the number of positive cases of canine rage

 Aid to eradicate the cases of human rage disease

 This technique is fast, easy and economic
