Pleural effusion and pneumothorax are the most common pleural diseases in dogs and cats. Sixty two cats in with respiratory diseases were confirmed by radiographic examination were studied. Five cases with pleural disease were future studied two cases were found to have pyothorax; two cases of hemothorax and one with chylothorax and pneumothorax were also observed hematological examinations revealed that sever leukocytosis with left shift was present in all affected cases. Pasturella multocida and mycoplasma spp. were common bacterial pathogens isolated respiratory distress and open mouth breathing were the dominant clinical findings.

Monitoring in pleural disease is essential although the prognosis may be poor intensive antibacterial treatment and frequent thoracocentesis were performed in all cases.
