In order to observe the occurrence of Toxoplasma gondii in dogs cached by Zoonosis Center Control from Ilhéus city-BA, 130 blood samples were collected from 2007 August to 2008 July. Indirect hemagglutination test was used to detect IgG antibodies anti-T. gondii. Imuno-Hai TOXO® (WAMA) Kit was used to this propose, and the titles were considered positives, when it was higher or equal 1:16. From all the animals analyzed, 54 (41%) were positives. The males had a higher occurrence 45 (83.3%) than the females that were nine (16.7%), and it was statistic significant (p = 0.03). These difference could be justified by the lower numbers of females caught, altering the statistic result, or by the fact that males look for bitches outside their houses, and could be more predisposed to contact the parasite. The rate of positive animals per district was: (35.18%) Teotônio Vilela, (20.37%) URBIS, (16.66%) Nelson Costa, (9.25%) Conquista, (12.96%) Nossa Senhora da Vitória, (3.7%) Malhado and (1.85) Avenida Esperança. The titles found were 1:16 (48.16%), 1:64 (33.3%), 1:256 (12.96%) and 1:1024 (5.55%). The high seroprevalence from T. gondii in dogs apprehended by zoonosis control Center, indicate an important urban contamination, being an important epidemiologic risk indicator for toxoplasmosis to the public health of the municipality.
