Evaluation of the side effects of ecstasy on the nervous system, blood cells and blood biochemical factors and comparison of the dose-dependent effects of the drug on the clinical symptoms and survival of the animal. Addiction by two different doses is the main cause for this study. This research was approved by the SPCA Ethics Committee.


The project applied six adult male dogs with the same feed and maintenance. The dogs were divided into two groups, namely group 1 and group 2. Blood samples were taken to evaluate normal blood values before the injection.


Then, group 1 was injected with one dose and group 2 with double doses of ecstasy supplied by Isfahan Medical University. Dog clinical and nervous symptoms were recorded on video tape before and after each injection. Blood samples were taken after two hours and sent for laboratory tests.


Data were analyzed using T-test. In clinical trial, the animals showed abnormal symptoms. Hematology of the dog's blood indicated a general increase in blood cells, especially for lymphocytes. Blood glucose, BUN, bilirubin and liver enzymes increased while albumin decreased.


These data revealed the stress effect of ecstasy on dog's vital organs, such as liver and kidneys, which had previously been supported by a mice study. However, we concluded that ecstasy had significant side effects on dog organ function, but no addiction was seen.
