Learning a few simple behavioral principles will make restraining all types of animals easier. All animals, both large and small, have an innate fear of falling. Providing a non-slip surface for the animal to stand on will reduce struggling. A second principle is optimal pressure. Enough pressure must be applied to make the animal feel restrained, but excessive pressure must be avoided. It is also important to make an animal feel supported and balanced. Examples of there principles will be shown.
