Fifteen Alaskan sea otters were captured, tagged and surgically implanted with radio transmitters.  Three types of transmitters were implanted with aseptic technique either intraperitoneally or subcutaneously in otters of varying ages and sex.  Post surgical behavior was monitored for 6 months.  Surgical recovery was without complications and there was no evidence of trauma or stress due to capture and handling.
