In our research, based on the specialty literature (1), we try to evaluate mammary tumor incidence in bitch, the most affected races, age and mamas, the incidence of the mammary tumors in left or right mammary line and also the incidence of the different histology types. Finally we globalizes our results on all period which we had had taken in study (10 years). Histopathological exams established the type of tumor, aspects and characteristics of each tumor (1, 2).
The material was represented by cadavers and samples provided by surgical excision reached at Department of Pathology from Cluj Napoca (Romania). The histological (3) and necropsy study had been done during a period of 120 months (between years 1993-2002).
Results
Macroscopic exam was represented by size of tumour, consistence and sectional profile. Microscopically we established the types of mammary neoplasms using WHO classification. We shall describe in each year different parameters. In a period of 10 years (1993-2002) were examined 1436 dogs, 156 presented mammary neoplasm (35, 45% from all cases with tumors). The higher incidence of mammary tumors was at 10 years old dogs (16, 02% form all dogs with mammary neoplastic aspects), 9 years old (9, 61%), 11 years old (9, 61%), 12 years old (9, 61%). The main races affected were German Shepherd 13, 46%, followed by Caniche 10, 25%, Doberman 5, 12%, Teckel 4, 48%, Cocker 4, 48%, German Brac 3, 20% and stray dogs 39, 74%. The most damaged mammas were the last pairs, inguinal mamas (32, 69%) and posterior abdominal mamas (26, 28%). Our results reveal a higher incidence of mammary neoplasms in left mammary chain (60,26%), comparative with right mammary chain (34,58%), rest of 5, 12% represented generalize mammary neoplastical disease. Types of mammary tumors diagnosed are: carcinomas 78, 51%, sarcomas 11, 11%, carcinosarcomas 8, 88%, hemangiosarcomas 0, 74%.
Conclusions
1. Mammary neoplasms had the highest incidence in bitches. 2. The most affected age was in 10 years old bitches. 3. The main affected race was German Shepherd followed by Caniche. 4. Inguinal mammas represent the most damaged structures. 5. In our study we had a higher incidence in left mammary chain. 6. Carcinomas represent the major malignant lesion in bitch mammas.
