Acute Hepatic Failure in a Dog after Xylitol Ingestion
To date, this is the highest published xylitol dose survived by a dog, as well as the only reported case that documents laboratory changes throughout the course of toxicity and includes normal hepatic indices for seven months following xylitol toxicity.

Self-Reported Acute Health Effects and Exposure to Companion Animals
Contact with animals, especially unfamiliar animals, was significantly associated with GI, respiratory, and skin/eye symptoms. Such associations could be attributable to zoonotic infections and allergic reactions. Prevention of pet-associated zoonotic diseases includes commonsense measures such as hand-washing, but are often overlooked by pet owners and non-pet owners alike.

Efficacy of intravesical pentosan polysulfate sodium in cats with obstructive feline idiopathic cystitis
Intravesical instillation of PPS three times within 48 hours in the chosen dose had no influence on the incidence of recurrent urethral obstruction and clinical signs in cats with obstructive feline idiopathic cystitis.

Treatment For Cat's Inappropriate Urination That Began After Moving Households
There are two different behavioral diagnoses for feline housesoiling -- marking and inappropriate elimination. While there may be some overlap in the treatments for these diagnoses, there are some significant differences.

Neurological Signs In Profoundly Hyponatremic Dog With Suspected Addison's Disease
I wish the recommendation for saline during an Addisonian crisis would go away. We definitely don't want saline.

Fear-Free Practice Certification: What Do You Think Of The Certification Process And The Public Advertising?
Charging vets to certify themselves as maintaining appropriate handling and care procedures is just another attempt to profit off the backs of hard working, caring practitioners. I'm getting tired of it.

Experiences With Relief Veterinarian Matching Service

Basics of Exotic Companion Mammal Dentistry
December 28, 2016 - January 28, 2017
Presenter(s): Sandra Mitchell, DVM, DABVP (Feline, ECM); Löic Legendre, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC, DEVDC

We will cover the basic dental anatomy for rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents, mice, rats, hamsters, and prairie dogs, as well as husbandry issues (such as diet) which may influence dental health. We will then discuss the common presentations seen with each species, methods of diagnosing dental disease, and the appropriate treatment for these conditions. Some time will be spent going over the proper equipment needed in the exotic dental suite, and post-procedural management options and care. This class will only touch on the anesthesia of these patients, leaving that generous topic for another course.
