The Effect of Dexemedetomidine on Radiographic Cardiac Shilhoutte Size in Healthy Cats
Dexmedetomidine was associated with a small but significant increase in cardiac silhouette size on right lateral (vertebral heart score), ventrodorsal (percentage width), and dorsoventral (percentage width) radiographs in healthy adult cats. This effect should be taken into consideration for future interpretation of thoracic radiographs in dexmedetomidine-sedated cats.

Chicken In Flock Was Bitten By Rabid Skunk: What Is The Risk To Other Chickens, And Is It Safe To Eat The Eggs?
If the skunk attacked only the one bird, then the remainder are not a concern. I wouldn't kill and immediately eat any chicken that was attacked. Birds have never been a source of human infection, that I'm aware of. Cooking will kill any virus in meat or eggs, but having the virus in the eggs is unlikely. The concern would be consuming the meat from a fresh wound where viable virus could be present. So don't do that.

Grain- And Gluten-Free Diets For Dogs And Cats: Just A Marketing Fad, Or Is There Nutritional Value?
Most of us doubt that glutens/grains are bad, but if you look at a lot of the pet food marketing, you'd think they were poison.

Preventing Recurrence Of Calcium Oxalate Uroliths In Cats
We have some interventions to consider that might help, most importantly addressing the urine specific gravity -- this is likely to be the most effective intervention in reducing stone recurrence.

November 4 - 23, 2016
Presenter(s): Meredith Stepita, DVM, DACVB (Behavior)

A staggering 52.8% of cat owners and 37.5% of dog owners report that their pet hates going to the vet. Client and patient stress, which ultimately increases our stress, has played a key role in declining veterinary visits over the last 10 years, but it doesn't have to be that way. The goal of this lecture is to empower every member of the veterinary team play to an active role in promoting patient comfort, therefore decreasing client and veterinary team stress, on a daily basis.

Clinical examples will be used to illustrate these concepts. The Organ System Pathophysiology and ABVP Core Examination Review series of courses may be used as a comprehensive review for the ABVP examination for small animals. This series of courses repeats every other year. Individual instructors may change some of their material year-to-year, but much of the core content is repeated.
