Effectiveness of the Anesthetic AQUI-S® 20E in marine Finfish and elasmobranchs
Anesthetic dosing of 35-55 mg L(-1) provided relatively fast induction and good anesthetic maintenance in cultured and wild finfish. Mortality rates of 20-90% were observed at higher doses (75 mg L(-1) and 100 mg L(-1), A. nobilis; 55 mg L(-1) and 75 mg L(-1), S. lalandi).

Impact of structural and cognitive enrichment on the learning performance, behavior and physiology of dwarf goats (Capra aegagrus hircus)
Structural enrichment of the housing conditions increased the motor activity of the animals in the external test situation, whereas cognitive enrichment lead to enhanced curiosity toward and prolonged contact with the unknown object. However, there were no differences in stress levels.

Chronic pain management in dogs and cats
This article describes the different mechanisms involved in chronic pain and how it is diagnosed, and discusses various treatments.

Elevated Liver Enzymes In A Young Dog Taking Atopica (Cyclosporine)
Although we definitely use cyclosporine to treat liver disease, there is also an uncommon non-dose-dependent idiosyncratic Type B drug reaction that can cause a hepatopathy in dogs on cyclosporine.

Treatment Protocols For Hemorrhagic Shock In Dogs And Cats
As for initial resuscitation, consider somewhat of a damage controlled resuscitative approach so that you avoid disrupting any clot formation and trigger rebleeding. As compared to the traditional large volume crystalloid resuscitative approach, a better strategy that has been recommended is the use of a small or restricted-volume, titrated approach to restore absolute vascular volume losses.

Pattern Recognition - Localizing the Cause of Respiratory Distress in Dogs and Cats
October 5 - 22, 2016
Tony Johnson, DVM, DACVECC;
Amy Carr, DVM, DACVECC; and
Christopher Byers, DVM, DACVECC, DACVIM (SAIM), CVJ

The initial approach to a patient with respiratory distress is of utmost importance as it can determine whether these critical patients live or die. The first step in examining a patient with a respiratory emergency is to perform a primary survey, efficiently evaluating airway, breathing, and circulation (ABCs). A clinician should evaluate the patient's breathing pattern and work of breathing; particular attention should be given to the phase of breathing affected and effort should be made to determine if the breathing pattern is obstructive or restrictive. Anatomical localization of the cause of respiratory distress is assessed through a "look, listen and feel" approach, and may be a very powerful tool for assessing underlying structural changes.
