Sarcopenia and Cachexia: Normal and Abnormal Causes of Skinny Old Cats
It's normal for cats to get skinny in their old age, and there's nothing to do about it, right? Not so fast!

Join Margie Scherk, DVM, DABVP Sunday at 8 p.m. ET (note the early start time!) to learn what's normal, what's abnormal, and what you can do to address muscle and weight loss in aging cats.

*This 90-minute session will feature audio. Take the readiness test before attending.

Need to Blow Off Some Steam?
Sometimes you just need to let off some steam with your colleagues about the staff member or client that stressed you out, the patient you couldn't save, or the difficulties of balancing practice and personal life.

Venting really only works when there's someone to listen - stop by Venting over a Venti Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET where you'll find Christina McRae, DVM, and other colleagues are always ready to lend an ear.

The Aquatic Animal Specialty Center is the Catch of the Day
Most of us received little training in aquatic medicine during veterinary school. So, what are you to do when a sick sea lion shows up in your office? Or, more realistically, when your favorite client decides to build a koi pond?

The Aquatic Animal Medicine Specialty Center is here to help.

  • Answers to common fish medicine questions
  • Resources on marine mammals and other aquatic species
  • Relevant journals and publications
  • Slide shows, images and videos
  • Links to helpful websites
  • and more...

Find the Aquatic Animal Medicine Specialty Center through the About Page for the Aquatic Animal Message Board and the Specialty Centers section of the VIN Library.

Prescribing Information Needed When Owner Wants To Use Medications Already In Their Possession
I write them a script -- that way I have told them to get the medications, and I have written instructions for them if they choose to not get the medications and to use what they have at home.

Dog Has Never Had Seizures, But Client Wants It Tested For Epilepsy

Questions From A New House Call Veterinarian
We use this regular cooler (no plug-in). I am very concerned (obsessed) with temperature control, so I tested this cooler with a thermometer. The cooler kept the temp at about 3 degrees Celcius for about 36 hours with one or two ice packs -- so I'm comfortable with this.
