Frequency of Dehiscence in Hand-Sutured and Stapled Intestinal Anastomoses in Dogs
Free Full Text

No significant difference in frequency of dehiscence was noted between hand-sutured and stapled anastomoses in dogs, but surgery duration is significantly reduced by the use of staples for intestinal closure.

Postpartum emergencies in cows
For many veterinarians, a call to such a situation can elevate the heart rate in anticipation of what might be to come. Swift and confident decision making is essential to ensure the best outcome for the animal; this often needs to be achieved with little support (due to the isolated nature of rural practice), in a highly charged situation, and frequently after hours.

A commercially available immunoglobulin E-based test for food allergy gives inconsistent results in healthy ponies
This study demonstrated that this IgE-based test is not a reliable screening tool for food allergy in healthy equids.

Feline Hyperesthesia: Is Treating With Venlafaxine (Effexor) Safe?
Obviously, the dose determines whether there would be a pharmaceutical vs. toxic effect, so I'm sure there's a dose that would cause a therapeutic effect rather than the toxicosis most of us tend to associate with venlafaxine in cats. Of course, I have no idea what that particular dose would be or whether it would have the desired effect on the cat's hyperesthesia.

Intranasal Bordetella Vaccine Induced Disease And Potential For Transmission
If disease induction by vaccination is possible, then does it follow that disease transmission from that same animal is possible?

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Warning: Olanzapine Adverse Drug Reaction
FDA is warning that the antipsychotic medicine olanzapine can cause a rare, but serious, skin reaction that can progress to affect other parts of the body.

Draining Wounds And Pathological Fracture In A Cat May Be From L Form Bacterial Infection
L-form infections are transmitted by direct contact with exudate, so the presence of another cat with similar lesions in contact with this owner's cat makes L-form very suspect. Unlike typical cat bite abscesses, the purulent material doesn't smell bad.

Exceptional Care for Cats - Improving the Experience for the Patient, the Client & the Clinical Team
August 1 - September 1, 2016
Presenter(s): Margie Scherk, DVM, DABVP (Feline Practice)

Handling cats in practice can be challenging. In order to work harmoniously with cats, we want to try to look at things from their point-of-view. The cat is a species that has evolved with a social structure different than ours. Cats are able to function completely efficiently as a solitary creature, yet have complex and changing social interactions. Being both predators and prey affects how they respond in a clinic setting.
