How to Follow a Message Board Discussion Without Really Trying
There are several ways to quickly find those lost message board threads that piqued your interest.
  • Use the MyDiscussions check box on the main message boards screen to view discussions you post to or begin. You can also use the tools at the bottom of discussion threads to add or remove discussions from your list of MyDiscussions individually. Read the Help Document for more details.
  • If you prefer to get an email when a new post is added to a discussion you're following, click the orange 'Subscribe' button at the bottom of the thread. Learn more.
  • Last but not least, you can also use MyActivities (Ctrl+M) to keep 'tabs' on your message board participation. Find out how.

Survey: Clinical Presentation for Cushing's Disease
The Animal Health Trust UK has asked the VIN Research team to help them with a survey to examine breed differences in clinical presentation for Cushing's Disease. The VIN Research team has evaluated the survey to ensure that AHT will not be collecting your personal data or marketing to you.

The survey should take only a few minutes to complete, and participants can request to be notified of the results of this study when available.

Please have pertinent laboratory information handy when completing the survey.

The survey is NOT on VIN, but can be accessed here.

Efficacy of Nikkomycin Z for respiratory coccidioidomycosis in naturally infected dogs
Twelve dogs with coccidioidal pneumonia that had been present for an average of three months were treated with 250 mg (5-15 kg) or 500 mg (> 15 - 30 kg) twice daily for 60 days. Nine dogs completed the course of treatment and seven dogs had improvement in disease.

Laparoscopic Colopexy in Dogs
Colopexy was accomplished in eight healthy dogs by use of a 3-portal laparoscopic technique without major intraoperative and postoperative complications. Concentrations of acute-phase C-reactive protein (CRP) were measured in serum as a marker of systemic inflammation postoperatively, and no relevant increase in CRP concentrations was found.

Food and water intake, growth, and adiposity of Sprague-Dawley rats with diet board for 24 months
The diet board (DB) is a novel method for achieving moderate dietary restriction in group housing. Food pellets are firmly attached into grooves in an aspen board, and rats have to gnaw the wood in order to eat. Food is available continuously, but due to the effort involved rats eat less.

Mass At Declaw Site
I have been disarticulating for years and am very happy with the outcome of the surgery, but disappointed that I wasn't successful in convincing the owner NOT to declaw.

Stress Marks On Bearded Dragons
Just confused about what I'm reading on some bearded dragon forums. They talk about stress marks as an indicator of stress as it may result from poor husbandry etc. My Beardie always has these to some degree. I don't see any mention of these on VIN. Is stress marks a true thing?

Icing Feet To Prevent Laminitis
It depends on the case, but icing the 2 front feet is a good start. For cases that are potentially very severe (e.g., they ate a lot of grain), you can ice all 4 feet. It can be very labor intensive. People use different methods. I think a popular method is to use old 5 L fluid bags and wrap around the feet filled with ice, but they need to be refilled with ice every time the ice melts and the water becomes warm.

Fluid Therapy Quick Reference
I think this is a good start, although I am not a big fan of quoting "shock doses" per se. There really is no definitive evidence behind using them and especially with the mounting evidence indicating the deleterious effects of large volume crystalloid resuscitation. Then I personally have swayed away from such large volume crystalloids in favor of a more low-volume crystalloid/colloid or colloid/HTS resuscitative approach...particularly with trauma.
