Food puzzles for cats: Feeding for physical and emotional wellbeing
Free Full Text

The effect of food puzzles on cats is a relatively new area of study, so as well as reviewing the existing empirical evidence, we provide case studies from our veterinary and behavioral practices showing health and behavioral benefits resulting from their use.

Veterinary Forensic Toxicology
Forensic veterinary toxicology cases can include cases involving animal cruelty (malicious poisoning), regulatory issues (e.g., contamination of the food supply), insurance litigation, or poisoning of wildlife.

Investigation of cell-free DNA in canine plasma and its relation to disease
Free Full Text

DNA is released from dying cells during apoptosis and necrosis. This cell-free DNA (cfDNA) diffuses into the plasma where it can be measured. In humans, an increase in cfDNA correlates with disease severity and prognosis.

Steroid Preferences For Pruritic Dermatological Conditions
I've been using a lot more dexamethasone at a tenth the dose of pred or 0.1 mg/kg. I use this for 3-5 days straight, then go to 2-3 times a week because its duration is longer than pred.

Effects Of Marijuana On Rabbits
Some of the "marijuana eradication" team members in Georgia recently achieved notoriety by raiding a retiree's garden and seizing a number of okra plants.

Veterinary Dentistry Teaching Models: What Is Available Besides Cadaver Heads?
Years back, we were in on the development of the Columbia Dentoform models. Unfortunately, while very good, they are no substitute for the real thing. And 25 years later, I regrettably must report that we still have not found a good substitute.

I thought I had heard it all...
We recently had some new clients with a 14 year old intact male cat that was positive for FIV. I'll just leave it at "the cat was very sick". They asked us to save the fur from his clipping to draw blood and also for his abdominal U/S clipping because they have saved all his shed and brushed out fur for his entire life. They keep it in empty Parmesan cheese jars.

Genetics, Epigenetics, and Stem Cells
March 29 - May 6, 2017
Presenters: Kathleen Cavanagh, BSc (Hons), DVM, MET; Jerold S. Bell, DVM; Jennifer G. Barrett, DVM, PhD, DACVS; Michael Golding, BSc, PhD

Genetics, epigenetics, stem cells -- these are all rapidly evolving areas of biotech science that sometime seem magical because of the pace of innovation. We will provide practical updates that can impact the way you practice veterinary medicine, both now, and moving forward! Though epigenetics is still "in the incubator", developments here are expected to revolutionize medicine (development, pharmacology, nutrition, and individualized patient care).

OSHA & Practice Safety 2017
April 10 - July 6, 2017
Presenter(s): Phil Seibert, CVT

This course is designed for the practice owner, manager, or administrator who desires to understand OSHA's Standards as well as practical ways to implement them in a veterinary practice. We attempt to avoid debating the merits of any particular requirement and focus on how to achieve compliance! This course will cover ALL aspects of a hospital safety program, not just the Hazard Communication Standard. The participants will be provided with many downloadable resources, including the actual text versions of applicable standards.

Check the World Clock Time Zone Converter to confirm class start times for your area.

Visit the CE Participant Resource Center to learn the basics of online CE, how to find your course area, CE participation requirements, and much more!
