The safety of high-dose buprenorphine administered subcutaneously in cats
Free Full Text

Once daily buprenorphine s.c. injections at doses of 0.24, 0.72, and 1.20 mg/kg/day for 9 consecutive days were well tolerated in young domestic cats.

Experimental Verification of the Effects on Normal Domestic Cats by Feeding Prescription Diet for Decreasing Stress
The study diet significantly increased the ratio of plasma tryptophan to large neutral amino acids and decreased urinary cortisol concentrations after being consumed daily for 8 weeks, but there was no effect on plasma cortisol levels following a stressful event (veterinary examination and blood draw).

Zoo Playgrounds: A Source of Enrichment or Stress for a Group of Nearby Cockatoos? A Case Study
The results showed that in some circumstances, the Moluccan cockatoos retreated from visitors, while the citron-crested cockatoos did not retreat from visitors and became more social in the presence of visitors. These findings highlight the importance of careful selection of species and individual animals to be housed near zoo playgrounds.

Petmap Blood Pressure Monitor Results Vs. Doppler In Dogs And Cats: Interpretation, And Are Independent Studies Available?
My general opinion is that noninvasive blood pressure measurement still isn't quite ready for prime time in veterinary medicine.

Management Of Cat That Has Acute-On-Chronic Feline Asthma
Interesting cat. Based on duration and chest radiographs, I think we can agree on chronic bronchitis/bronchiolitis.

Radiographs Suggestive Of Multiple Myeloma From A Dog That Has Pleural Effusion And Progressive Paraparesis
The dog came back for revisit today and I repeated the radiographs. I was shocked to see the moth eaten lesion getting worse in the lumbar vertebrae, especially L5.

Kitten With Vascular Ring Anomaly And Dilation Of Caudal Esophagus
We have seen a dilated esophagus distal to the vascular ring fairly often. I think one reason it is not noticed is that the contrast medium does not make it past the ring, so the distal dilation is not noticed.

How Do Veterinarians Cope With Allergies To Animals?
I have learned over time that my worst allergies are to rabbits, rats, and blocked cats so when I see those guys coming I go into the room with gloves and a mask on. I look like a fool but at least it keeps me from spending the next several hours prostrate in my office with my eyes swollen shut. Does anyone remember "Ritter's Flea Powder"? I had a reaction so severe to it once that I nearly died.

Pharmaceutical Regulatory Review
April 27 - May 21, 2016

The primary purpose of this course is to provide accurate and up to date information regarding the security and accountability of controlled substances so that veterinary practitioners can make best practice choices within their practice setting.

Backyard Poultry Medicine
May 20 - June 22, 2016

In recent years, more people are starting to raise small flocks of poultry in backyard urban settings. When these birds become injured or ill, the owners are turning to their local family veterinarian for assistance, even though many small animal practitioners have very little to no experience with poultry or with how to treat animals that are being used in food production. This course is intended to help those veterinarians and their technicians become more familiar with diagnosing and treating conditions of poultry commonly encountered in the backyard setting.

Visit the CE Participant Resource Center to learn the basics of online CE, how to find your course area, CE participation requirements, and much more!

To get the most from your CE course, plan to attend a practice session before your course begins. Practice sessions are scheduled for the same days and times each week for your convenience:

  • Tues. afternoons 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. ET
  • Weds. evenings 10:00 - 11:00 p.m. ET
  • Thurs. evenings 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. ET

Check the World Clock Time Zone Converter to confirm session start times for your area.
