Osteochondral dysplasia of the coxofemoral joints in a Friesian foal: Clinical findings and methods of diagnosis
Similar to the occurrence of this condition in other species and considering the small genetic basis of the Friesian horse breed, a genetic predisposing factor is suspected to play a key role in the developing mechanism of dysplastic coxofemoral joint disease in horses as illustrated with this case.

Cytological grading of canine cutaneous mast cell tumours
The cytograding can provide helpful insights to assist clinical decisions in most cases. However, the risk of underestimation in a minority of patients represents a limit to the overall utility of the technique.

Primary closure of equine laryngotomy incisions: Healing characteristics and complications of 180 cases
Complications after primary closure of equine laryngotomy incisions are infrequent and considered of minimal severity and can be performed safely when paying careful attention to the closure of the cricothyroid membrane.

Esophagitis Is A Possible Cause Of Upper Gastrointestinal Signs In Dogs
Esophagitis can be caused by chronic vomiting, GE reflux, trauma (e.g., stick or bone ingestion), esophageal dysmotility, ingestion of a caustic substance, medication (e.g., doxycycline), chronic gastro-esophageal herniation, stricture, and Spirocerca lupi.

Cat With Hypersalivation And Vomiting Was Diagnosed With Bilateral Ureteral Obstruction
The literature to date supports subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) to have the lowest morbidity and mortality, especially with strictures, when done by experienced operators.

Does Dehydration Cause Elevated Uric Acid In Birds?
Arguments have been made that the uric acid level should not be a reflection of the state of hydration, but I absolutely do see this in clinical practice.

Should A Puppy That Has Suspected Renal Dysplasia Be Spayed?
The physiologic stress of pregnancy can decompensate these guys, and if the owners don't think they can definitively keep her from being impregnated, then maybe yes. On the flip side, if this is dysplasia, this dog's intermediate-term prognosis is fairly poor (honestly, I'd say 6 - 12 months) with a creatinine of 4.5 at 7 months old.

Successful Practice Transition and Ownership Module 1
April 12 - 29, 2017
Presenter(s): Thom Haig, DVM; Edward J. Guiducci, JD; Michael Porrello, CPA, CVA

Each of the modules in the Successful Practice Transition and Ownership series will identify key issues, common opportunities, as well as specific risks in considering each one of these life changing decisions. With the exception of the opportunity to become a veterinarian, the decision to own a practice and the decision to sell is the biggest life changing choice a veterinarian makes. The detailed sessions in these four modules will provide the information you need to make a successful ownership decision. The first in a series of 4 courses, this course will provide an overview of the practice transition process.

Correlating Gross Morphology to Cytopathology: How Much Can We Learn?
June 6 - 30, 2017
Presenter(s): Britton Grasperge, DVM; Eric Snook, DVM, PhD, DACVP (Anatomic Pathology)

Identifying a logical list of differential diagnoses for a gross lesion, based on general shape, color, texture and location is a key skill for the practicing clinician. Additionally, clinicians serve their clients well by efficiently evaluating cytologic preparations to develop a list of likely differentials prior to submission to a clinical pathologist to develop an effective treatment plan.
