Scope of the Problem and Perception by Owners and Veterinarians
Animal-related factors associated with obesity in dogs and cats include breed, neuter status, age, and gender, whereas owner-related factors include diet choice, feeding method, and provision of exercise.

Clinical Effect of Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy Compared to Lateral Fabellar Suture in Dogs
Based on this study, the effect size and number needed to treat are such that the clinical difference warrants recommending the TPLO over the LFS in large and giant breed dogs.

The effect of space on behaviour in large groups of domestic cats kept indoors
In Sweden, the animal welfare legislation allows the keeping of up to 15 adult cats in the same room. However, keeping several cats in a small area may increase the level of conflicts between the cats and the social stress.

Suspected Encephalitozoon cuniculi In Multi-Rabbit Household: Should Asymptomatic Rabbits Be Treated?
The problem with treating asymptomatic adults is that there is no evidence that treatment will prevent them from developing clinical disease. There is no advantage or benefit to 'prophylactic' treatment.

Owner Is Traveling With Cat And Gabapentin Is Not Working For Sedation: What Can Be Used And Can The Prescription Be Filled In Another State?
As long as you are licensed in the state in which the prescription is issued (and within a valid V/C/P relationship), it is legal for you to issue that prescription. As long as the pharmacy is licensed in the state where the prescription is to be filled, it is legal for the pharmacist to fill the prescription.

Routine Wellness Care For Macaques
I treat all macaques as Herpes B positive, and always use appropriate protection when working with these. Although transmission rates are low, the high mortality rate in humans that contract the virus warrants extreme caution.

Suggestions For Dogs That Are Flatulent
If a probiotic doesn't help, I'd consider trying a different diet.

How to make yourself more employable
"I want to see them willing to volunteer with community things like career days, health fairs, Lions Club, 4-H programs, fund-raisers for various causes, etc. These things won't happen at the time of the interview, but mentioning that you are willing and planning to do such is a bonus. That would set you above another applicant in my book."

Towards a Sustainable Clinical Career: The Neuroscience of Clinicianship
March 12 - April 19, 2017
Presenter(s): Michele Gaspar, DVM, DABVP (Feline Practice), MA, LPC

This course is designed to address core skills that are critically necessary for sustainable and effective clinical practice. These include: self-observation/mindfulness; empathy; resilience/self-compassion/boundaries; and attentiveness. Until recently, these have been erroneously considered as unimportant "soft skills" that are beyond the scope of traditional veterinary medical education. However, they are increasingly recognized as essential in enabling a clinician to flourish in his or her professional and personal life. This course will provide skills necessary to engage with clinical practice in healthier ways.

Pet Bird Medicine
May 1 - June 1, 2017
Presenter(s): Drury Reavill, DVM, ABVP Avian, ABVP Reptile & Amphibian, ACVP; Rose Ann Fiskett, VMD, ABVP Avian, ABVP Exotic Mammal

This course is designed as a review of the common disease conditions by pet bird species (large psittacines and toucans, small psittacines, canaries, and select finches). The discussion will include clinical signs for many of these diseases and diagnostic tests commonly used.

Check the World Clock Time Zone Converter to confirm class start times for your area.
