Welfare, Quality of Life, and Euthanasia of Aged Horses
The most common reasons for euthanasia include musculoskeletal disorders or lameness, colic, and nonspecific chronic diseases. The decision to euthanize is difficult, so the advice of the veterinarian and QoL are important.

Imaging and Clinical Outcomes in 20 Dogs Treated with Thin Film Banding for Extrahepatic Portosystemic Shunts
The band resulted in complete closure of the vessel around which it was placed in 13 dogs. In the remaining 7 dogs, the vessel lumen was narrowed, but not completely closed. In 8 dogs, the band location was suboptimal, allowing systemic drainage of visceral blood or secondary shunting branches to persist.

Behaviour of Bucking Bulls Prior to Rodeo Performances and Relation to Rodeo Human Activities
Bulls spent an average of 36.4 ± 6.4 (mean ± SD) min in the bucking chute (range 27–50 min). While being held in the bucking chutes prior to performance, 70% of the bulls showed no behaviours associated with aggression or escape, and when displayed, the majority of behaviours were displayed less than two to three times by individual bulls.

This is one of those scenarios where the formulation of a rational treatment plan is difficult without an extensive work-up. And even with comprehensive diagnostics, we can sometimes be left with unanswered questions.

Tips On Adjusting To Emergency Overnight Schedule And Transitioning To Days When Shifts Are Done
I think you hit the nail on the head when you mention sacrifice -- it's hard or impossible to have both a fulfilling ER career and not keep a schedule where you have odd hours that are hard on the body, and are working opposite spouse/family, which makes you miss holidays and weekends and other key togetherness times.
