Complication Rates After Bilateral versus Unilateral Total Ear Canal Ablation with Lateral Bulla Osteotomy for End-Stage Inflammatory Ear Disease in Dogs: 79 Ears
Dogs undergoing BLSS did not have a significantly higher total complication rate, or higher neurologic, ocular, or incisional complication rates, than the ULS procedure. No major anesthetic complications affecting outcome were recorded for either group.

Characterization and Comparison of Injuries Caused by Accidental and Non-accidental Blunt Force Trauma in Dogs and Cats
Injuries significantly associated with motor vehicle accidents (MVA) were pelvic fractures, pneumothorax, pulmonary contusion, abrasions, and degloving wounds. Injuries associated with non-accidental injury (NAI) were fractures of the skull, teeth, vertebrae, and ribs, scleral hemorrhage, damage to claws, and evidence of older fractures.

Dangers Of Balls And Other Chew Toys For Dogs; Is Inducing Emesis Contraindicated In Dogs That Ingest Foreign Objects?
I'm in the camp with folks who are not big fans of chew toys for dogs -- the packages have unrealistic instructions for pet owners. Who *really* takes the chew toys away when they are small enough to swallow? Add to that the broken teeth, foreign body potential, etc., and I think 90% + of the toys at pet stores are dangerous.

Using Ultrasound To Differentiate Typhlitis From Cecal Mass/Prolapse In Dogs
If it is a true typhlitis, then you will have pronounced vasculature surrounding the density. It is known as the ring of fire.

Tips For Administering Oral Medications To Small Birds
For small passerines, like canaries, I tilt the head sideways (such that one eye is pointing toward the ground) and instill a drop at the tomium nearer to the commissure. A slight tweak of beak, and the medication slips in.

Winning Over the Non-Compliant Owner Of An Aggressive Dog
Great news. At the end of the second session, Mrs. S conceded, "I hate to admit it, but you were right. CeCe is much better."

Presenters: Kathleen Cavanagh, Honors BSc, DVM, MET; Jerold S. Bell, DVM; Jennifer G. Barrett, DVM, PhD, DACVS; Michael Golding, BSc, PhD

Genetics, epigenetics, stem cells - these are all rapidly evolving areas of biotech science that sometime seem magical because of the pace of innovation. We will provide practical updates that can impact the way you practice veterinary medicine, both now, and moving forward! Though epigenetics is still "in the incubator", developments here are expected to revolutionize medicine (development, pharmacology, nutrition, and individualized patient care).

Senior Pet Behavior
May 28 - June 14, 2017
Presenter: Meredith Stepita, DVM, DACVB (Veterinary Behaviorist)

As medical advances prolong our patient's lives and pet owners are willing to go the extra mile to keep their aging pets comfortable clinicians are seeing more older pets with challenging medical and behavior problems. Sometimes it can be difficult to determine if clinical signs are medical, behavioral or a combination. During this lecture we will discuss behavioral clinical signs geriatric pets typically present for, tips for determining if the cause is medical or behavioral, and treatments options (behavior modification and medications) tailored to older pets. Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome will be discussed in detail including clinical signs, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment.
