2021 VCS Annual Conference
Laura Garrett, DVM, DACVIM (Onc); Ruthanne Chun, DVM, DACVIM (Onc)

Synopsis of Workshop

Communicating with clients and veterinary care team members is something that is constantly done in practice, and it can be something that is challenging and exhausting. While there is no simple fix, there are well-described techniques that can help smooth interactions and improve outcomes and job satisfaction. In this interactive workshop, core tools will be described, demonstrated, discussed and practiced. Participants will be encouraged to bring up situations from their own experiences for discussion.

Learning Objectives

Attendees will walk away with communication tools including specific phrases and ways to apply them, increased awareness of their own nonverbals, ways to de-escalate interactions, use of empathy statements, investigating another’s perspective and when to intentionally reach out for these tools and use them.

Note

This workshop is limited to the first 40 people who pre-register on the platform when it opens. It will be a very interactive workshop thus the reason for the limited participants.
