Clinical Controversies in Radiation Oncology—Combining Drugs and Chemotherapy with Radiation
Dr. Nathan Lee
Figure 1
Veterinary radiation oncology and medical oncology have both seen extensive advancements in equipment and drugs used to treat common tumors in companion animals. Owners appear to be more willing to treat their pets with these advanced treatment options, but there still is no standard of care in veterinary oncology. Some debate/controversy remains over tumor types to consider combined therapies for and timing/logistics of combined therapies in clinical practice.
This talk will summarize the common drugs and chemotherapy treatments given during and around radiation therapy based on the literature available and anecdotal evidence from clinical experience. After the summary, a panel of four radiation oncologists will discuss and address how each of us handle combination therapies.
