Description:
In this conversation the perspective of the boss is discussed, including what are reasonable expectations from a boss towards a new graduate from the clinical and professional attitude point of view. Additionally, several resources and tips are shown, including tips with time management, as well as how to interact with team members and how to face uncomfortable situations when there is a problem or something is not working. In the seminar, additional information is provided about salary calculation, as well as the clinic’s financial aspects which can sometimes drive decision making.

To earn a certificate of completion the participant must complete all learning modules and score 80% or better on the end-of-course test. Completion of the Conversation will take a minimum of 50 minutes. Participants must complete the participation requirements by April 30, 2025 to be eligible for a certificate.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the Conversation, the participant should be able to
  • To describe what are the reasonable expectations that a boss may have from a new graduate from the clinical point of view
  • To describe resources that can be used to improve gaps of knowledge
  • To suggest possible ways of increasing efficiency at work and get home on time
  • To explain things that a new grad can expect from a job from the point of view of contract and salary.
  • To discuss why the finances of a clinic are important and how the salary of an associate is calculated
  • To explain what behavioural attributes can make you thrive in any environment


Level and Prerequisites: This basic VIN CE Conversations With Colleagues is open for enrollment to Veterinarians interested in understanding expectations of employers. This course is open to VIN members only.
Credit Approval: This non-interactive Conversations With Colleagues is approved for 1 hour of continuing education credit by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 20-939010)

    2. Veterinary support staff must be VSPN members in order to enroll in a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.

    1. VSPN CE courses are open to veterinary support staff and veterinarians.
    2. Only VIN and VSPN members can enroll in a VSPN CE course.
    3. Veterinarians will only receive credit for those VSPN CE courses that specify in the Accreditation statement that the course is accredited for veterinarians.
  3. Please check the course Level and Prerequisites, Accreditation, and Tuition before enrolling.
