Level and Prerequisites: This basic course will be open to veterinarians actively interested in a refresher on the diagnosis of canine immune-mediated hemolytic anemia.

Course Information:
This course will cover diagnosis and treatment of canine IMHA, emphasizing practical strategies to be employed in the private practice setting.

Week 1 (Real Time Session July 14, 2020): Diagnosis of Canine IMHA
Presenter: Todd Archer, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM
Format: Audio
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
  • Identify the tests needed to diagnose IMHA in dogs.
  • Interpret the results of the tests used to diagnose IMHA in dogs.
  • Get to a final diagnosis of IMHA in dogs.

Week 2 (Real Time Session July 21, 2020): Treatment of Canine IMHA
Presenter: Todd Archer, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM
Format: Audio
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
  • Describe an overview of the goals of medical management of canine IMHA.
  • Describe therapies for use in the acute setting for treatment of IMHA, including blood products, immunosuppressive therapy, and anti-thrombotic therapy.
  • Describe the long-term management of canine IMHA, including strategies to taper immunosuppressive therapy.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course. To learn more about the requirements for earning a CE certificate, please refer to Receiving Your CE Credit and Course Completion Certificate.

Course Materials: Course materials will be available in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.

About the Presenter:
Todd Archer completed veterinary school at Mississippi State University. He then went on to complete an internship followed by a small animal internal medicine residency at Mississippi State University. He is currently a faculty member in the internal medicine service at Mississippi State University and has board certification by the ACVIM.
