Course RTS Times in Your Area: World Clock Converter Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate course is geared toward veterinarians and higher level/credentialed veterinary technicians/technologists. Participants in this course should have an interest in learning about how different toxicologic hazards affect our pets and the best way to utilize diagnostic tools to aid the general practitioner in treating them.

Participants will learn about a variety of common toxicologic hazards that are frequently encountered by pets. The initial session will cover the basic understanding of toxicokinetic principles and how they apply to managing toxicology cases. Followed by a session on common toxicology drugs, and when and how to use them. The third and final sessions will comprehensively cover two drug groups that are commonly encountered with toxicosis, marijuana and mushrooms. - identify and treat uncommon (Ethanol, GHB, Ecstasy, etc.) mind altering toxicoses.

Laura Stern grew up in Central Illinois and graduated from Michigan State University. She practiced in the Chicago suburbs and Decatur, Illinois before joining the ASPCA-APCC. She became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology in 2016. She lives in Monticello with her husband Travis, and their Chihuahua Molly and cats: Tiger, Josie, Bernadette, Carla, and Blade. Sharon Gwaltney-Brant received her DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University and her PhD in veterinary pathology at Kansas State University. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology and the American Board of Toxicology. Formerly Vice President/Medical Director of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, Dr. Gwaltney-Brant is consultant in veterinary toxicology and veterinary forensic toxicology and pathology. She has been a toxicology consultant on VIN since 2000, and she also holds adjunct faculty status at the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine. Tina Wismer is Medical Director of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. She became a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology and the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology in 2003. Dr. Wismer is an adjunct instructor at the University of Illinois, a Master Gardener and a consultant for VIN (Veterinary Information Network). Charlotte Means is Director of Toxicology for the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology and the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology. She is a toxicology consultant on VIN and is an adjunct faculty at the University of Illinois. She consults on toxicology cases as well as serves as the Center's Librarian ensuring maintenance of the Center's library resources and performs literature searches to support ongoing cases and research.
