Course Information:
Successful management of a patient that has sustained a traumatic bone fracture is largely based on careful pre-operative planning. Fracture management is a fine balance between providing mechanical stability for sufficient time until the fracture heals and optimizing the biology of the tissues to facilitate more rapid healing. This session utilizes case examples with an interactive format to highlight key decision making in common fracture case scenarios.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • understand and discuss mechanical and biologic challenges of the most common fractures encountered in small animal practice.
  • gain insight into common fracture management pitfalls to optimize successful patient outcome.
  • advise their clients on ideal conservative or surgical fracture treatment.

Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians interested in case-by-case fracture decisions.
Credit Approval: This course is approved for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 20-1117876)
