Course Information:
One of the greatest challenges of the orthopedic examination is confident localization of lameness. This session focuses on visual and manual tips that help with more efficient localization through the gait evaluation, standing and manipulative portions of the orthopedic exam. Specifically, how do dogs compensate for lameness and what to look for. Key points from over 20 years studying and teaching orthopedic exam skills will be shared during this session.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • understand and discuss compensatory mechanisms for canine lameness.
  • determine what specifically to look for when performing gait analysis.
  • gain insight on specific joint manipulations to become more efficient and accurate with lameness localization from their orthopedic exam.

Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians interested in improving their orthopedic exam skills.
Credit Approval: This course is approved for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 20-1117874)
