Course Information:
This course focuses on extending the participants’ knowledge of feline medicine, covering a variety of topics including chronic enteropathies, urinary tract infections, steroid use in felines, diagnosis and management of asthma, and feline reproduction.


Learning Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • recognize the signs of feline chronic enteropathies.
  • develop a rational diagnostic plan on a case-by-case basis.
  • institute an appropriate therapeutic and monitoring plan.
  • identify prognostic factors and be able to recognize and manage common comorbidities.
  • identify when it is appropriate to treat bacteriuria.
  • select an appropriate antibiotic for both upper and lower.
  • understand the effects of steroids on the immune system.
  • list the side effects and risks of long term steroid use.
  • identify feline asthma.
  • handle short term management of asthma.
  • handle long term management of asthma.
  • feel comfortable working with cat breeders, managing routine feline reproductive issues such as breeding management, infertility and dystocia.
  • diagnose and manage challenging disorders in feline reproduction, such as the ovarian remnant syndrome, mammary hyperplasia, pyometra and preterm labor.


Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians interested in interested in extending their knowledge of feline medicine.
Credit Approval: This course is approved for 10 hours of continuing education credit by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 20-1187930)
