Level and Prerequisites: The NAVLE® Review and Preparation course provides structured week-by-week instruction to help NAVLE® candidates stay on track to complete exam preparation in an efficient and effective manner. This course is geared toward senior veterinary students and veterinarians preparing for the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam (NAVLE®).

The NAVLE® Review and Preparation course does not qualify for AAVSB RACE approval.

Course Description:
This course consists of seven (7) 2 hour real-time sessions; supplementary library materials, and message board discussions.

Organized by species, each real-time session will highlight the "Top 20" diseases and conditions encountered by practitioners in the US and Canada. All real-time sessions will include multiple-choice questions similar to those that candidates will encounter on the NAVLE®. The questions will lead to a brief discussion and summary of each condition in a distilled format.

We will cover NAVLE® study plans and exam strategies and provide strategies for reviewing topics not covered in the "Top 20s." The last session will include a mock examination.

By the end of the course, participants will have received

• Guidance on NAVLE® preparation, test-taking strategies, and best study materials.
• A weekly live review covering a wide selection of NAVLE®-style material.
• The opportunity to interact with other NAVLE® candidates and professors in class and on the message boards.
• Weekly practice in answering one-best-answer multiple choice questions in a timed format.
• Access to boarded clinicians for expert real-time assistance.

Course Materials: Course materials will be available in the course library 1 week before each real-time session. Participants are expected to review the provided library materials during the week before each real-time session.

About the Instructors:
Dr. Mclaughlin is president and founder of the Zuku Review, an online veterinary test preparation service in operation since 2006. He specializes in helping students and new graduates prepare for the NAVLE®, BCSE and PAVE QE. He consults with veterinary schools in the U.S. and abroad on boards review planning and is a popular speaker on effective adult learning. Dr. Mclaughlin is boarded in veterinary preventive medicine and brings a decade of international public health experience to VIN. With Dr. Waiva Worthley, he has developed and given the VIN NAVLE® Review and Preparation course twice yearly since February 2008.

Dr. Waiva Worthley has the distinction of passing the boards twice! She graduated from Virginia Tech in 1988 and passed the National Board Examination. Eighteen years later, she took North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE®) in order to be licensed in Missouri and passed again. VIN's resources were invaluable to her in preparing for the NAVLE®. In collaboration with Dr. Steve McLaughlin and VIN, Dr. Worthley developed the VIN NAVLE® Review and Preparation class. She has co-taught the NAVLE® review 6 times since 2008, to over 1200 veterinary students and graduates.

Content: Bovine Top 20 NAVLE® Review

Week 3 (Real-Time Session Sunday, February 27):
Board Certified Specialist: Bob Doneley, BVSc, FACVSc (Avian Health)
Required reading: Review the material for Week 3 in the course library prior to the real-time session.
Content: Pigs, Sheep, Goats, Poultry, Pet Birds, and Other Small Animals Review

Week 4 (Real-Time Session Sunday, March 6):
Board Certified Specialist: Emily Graves, VMD, MS, DACVIM
Required reading: Review the material for Week 4 in the course library prior to the real-time session.
Content: Equine Top 20 NAVLE® review

Week 5 (Real-Time Session Sunday, March 13):
Board Certified Specialist: Michele Gaspar, DVM, DAVBP
Required reading: Review the material for Week 5 in the course library prior to the real-time session.
Content: Feline Top 20 NAVLE® review

Week 6 (Real-Time Session Sunday, March 20):
Board Certified Specialist: Laura Ridge Cousins, DVM, MS, DACVIM

Week 7 (Real-Time Session Sunday, March 27):

CE CREDITS: 0

Tuition: Vet Students/$50, which may later be applied as credit to your first CE course enrollment as a graduate/veterinarian.*

** NOTE: The instructors provide a lot of excellent material and do their best to answer participant questions in the time allotted. Sometimes a session can run overtime by 15 to 30 minutes because of the number of participant questions posted.

Participants are not required to stay late when the session runs overtime but it is in their best interests to do so.

A transcript of the real-time session, including any session overtime, will be available in the course library the following day. Participants can use the transcript to review any portion of the class that they may have missed.

** NOTE: To ensure participants are ready and prepared for classes, enrollment will close when the maximum number of participants is reached or at 5pm ET the day of the first real-time session unless otherwise noted. If the first real-time session is on a weekend, course will close on the Friday before the first real-time session.

Enrollment will be limited to 450 registrants. This class may fill quickly; students and veterinarians interested in the structured active learning provided through real-time sessions and message boards should register now to ensure a "seat" in class. Please enroll only if planning on attending all real-time sessions and fully participating in the course.

Course withdrawal and refund policy: Withdrawal prior to the listed start date of a course entitles the registrant to a complete refund or a credit toward a future VIN CE course, whichever is preferred. Withdrawal within 1 week after the listed start date (i.e. including no more than one real-time session) entitles the registrant to a credit toward any future VIN CE course. (This policy does not apply to courses with only one real-time session.) After the first real-time session, a registrant may withdraw due to special circumstances and receive prorated credit towards a future VIN course. These requests will be handled on an individual basis. The amount of the prorated credit will be determined based on 65% of the time remaining in the course at the time of withdrawal. It is not possible to withdraw retroactively.
