Course Information:
Appropriate pediatric care and client education is critical part of companion animal practice. It helps set the stage for lifelong health, enhances the bond between owner and pet, and helps avoid common preventable diseases. This course will discuss important topics that need to be covered during wellness visits, vaccination and deworming protocols, and common health conditions encountered during the pediatric period. We will focus exclusively on those patients between the ages of about 6-16 weeks of age. A separate class on VIN focuses on the care of the neonate.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • recall the most important components of a pediatric visit which include husbandry, behavior, nutrition, preventative care, and vaccination.
  • understand the most recent pediatric vaccination recommendations.
  • respond to common client questions.
  • discuss the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of common conditions seen in pediatric patients.

Level and Prerequisites: This basic VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians actively interested in an overview of pediatric care (puppies and kittens), including important pediatric wellness visit topics, vaccination protocols, and common health conditions.
