Course Information:
Aquatic medicine is an exciting, rapidly growing field. But with over 30,000 identified fish species, even experienced veterinarians can feel like a fish out of water. In this course, we’ll take a deeper dive into the latest evidence-based advancements in fish medicine. Course content includes updates on diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, analgesia, and surgery for fish patients, beyond the basics.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • acquire and evaluate diagnostic images of fish patients using radiography and ultrasonography.
  • understand indications for and become familiar with resources for advanced imaging (CT, MRI) in fish.
  • safely sedate and anesthetize fish for minimally invasive procedures and surgery.
  • develop pre-operative, surgical, and post-operative treatment plans for fish patients.
  • understand surgical approaches for common procedures encountered in fish practice - from wen surgery to exploratory celiotomy.
