Course Information:
This course is aimed at the veterinary clinicians interested in useful and rapid diagnostic aids, within the practice location, which can be useful with the acuity of some avian medical/surgical cases. The instructor believes that some level of skill in this area is important for any veterinarian with a serious interest in avian medicine and surgery.

Between the supplied library and the lectures, the course takes the participant from sample collection and processing to cellular recognition, to keys toward differential diagnosis. Diagnostic information can then be available in a matter of minutes vs. several days or more.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • recognize normal and abnormal avian blood cells and some normal and abnormal somatic cells (cytology) and become more knowledgeable about the significance of the findings.
  • assist local colleagues and help train support licensed veterinary technicians, to provide more rapid and useful diagnostic information.

Level and Prerequisites: This basic VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians interested in avian cytology and hematology.
Credit Approval: This course is approved for 4 hours of continuing education credit by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 20-991588)
