Course Information:
This course is designed to give the veterinarian a practical and comprehensive understanding of the techniques used in fish radiography and an approach to interpreting fish radiographs. Topics will include fish anatomy, and the preparation, technique and positioning required to achieve good diagnostic images. Although mainly based on commonly kept pet species such as koi and goldfish, the techniques can be applied to any fish species. Examples of the most common uses of radiography in fish will be illustrated and include abnormal buoyancy and swimming behaviour, body deformity due to abdominal swelling and skeletal lesions, and foreign bodies. In many cases, the radiographic features will be compared to the gross findings at necropsy. Advice on improving image quality for posting on VIN will be offered and illustrated by previous examples from the Aquatic Animal Medicine board.

To earn a certificate of completion the participant must complete all learning modules and score 80% or better on the end-of-course test. Completion of the course will take a minimum of 149 minutes. Participants must complete the participation requirements by April 30, 2026 to be eligible for a certificate.
