Course Information:
Emergency and intensive care clinicians are often exposed to patients with seizures. Seizure severity varies greatly, and patient care can be further complicated by systemic illness. There are numerous causes for seizures and management of complex cases is challenging. Prompt recognition and treatment is crucial for successful outcomes. With a good understanding of the etiologies of seizures, clinicians will be able to better care for their patients. This course will review the pathophysiology of seizures, common etiologies, and present patient management for common acute care scenarios.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • review the pathophysiology of seizures.
  • illustrate common scenarios with case presentations.
  • discuss diagnostic approach.
  • describe emergency management for seizures.
  • provide an overview of current anti-seizure medications.

Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians actively interested in seizures.
