Shock is a complex syndrome with a wide range of etiologies. It is a life-threatening emergency, which requires prompt recognition and intervention. Clinicians will be guided through key pathophysiological processes explaining common clinical presentations in veterinary patients. Step-by-step patient management will be discussed. Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
- understand the clinical importance of shock.
- review shock types of classification.
- describe the steps of diagnosing shock.
- review the clinical management of shock.
- discuss specific clinical scenarios: hemorrhagic shock, traumatic brain injury.
- present clinical indications for the use of vasopressors.
