Course Information:
You recently were or soon will be diagnosed with a new condition -- DOCTOR! The transition from NOT doctor to THE doctor is a scary one. You don't know it yet, but you already know a lot and are ready to do this. You have the knowledge and many of the skills. Transforming that competence into confidence is the next big step in your journey.

Getting Through the Night Module 2 is the second in a series of CE courses offered yearly FREE to new graduates, thanks to the VIN Foundation.

     

The VIN Foundation (https://vinfoundation.org) is a non-profit organization committed to helping you and all new graduates feel supported as you journey into and through our profession. Getting Through the Night is a VIN Foundation resource made possible through individual donations and grants. VIN membership is not required to access the VIN Foundation resources.

There will be minimal emphasis on pathophysiology and a strong emphasis on diagnostic testing, client management, time management and therapy for various common emergencies. Common mistakes will be highlighted so YOU don't make them, and common pitfalls will be mentioned so YOU can avoid them.


Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • Understand and be comfortable with common ER diseases and their management including:
    • Acute abdomen
    • GDV
    • Acute renal failure
    • Pericardial effusion
    • IVDD
    • Addison's
    • Dog maul/wound managment
    • Urethral obstruction in cats and dogs
    • Sodium issues
    • Respiratory distress
    • HGE
  • Understand the basic handling of toxin cases.
  • Understand why pee is important.
  • Understand when and how to use oxygen therapy.
  • Understand when and how to stabilize a fracture.
  • Recite the Ten steroid rules to live by.
  • Understand when and how to induce vomiting.
  • Understand feline ER essentials.


Level and Prerequisites: This basic VIN CE course is geared toward new grads looking for practical guidance as they venture forth into the unpredictable world of veterinary medicine but can be useful to those already experienced with ER work.
Credit Approval: This course is approved for 6 hours of continuing education credit by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 20-1025846)

Enrollment qualifications:

    1. VIN CE courses are open to VIN member, VIN student member, and non-member veterinarians.
    2. Veterinary support staff must be VSPN members in order to enroll in a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. VSPN CE Courses:
    1. VSPN CE courses are open to veterinary support staff and veterinarians.
    2. Only VIN and VSPN members can enroll in a VSPN CE course.
    3. Veterinarians will only receive credit for those VSPN CE courses that specify in the Accreditation statement that the course is accredited for veterinarians.
  3. Please check the course Level and Prerequisites, Accreditation, and Tuition before enrolling.
  4. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses.
