Course Information:
Ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging modality well on its way to becoming a necessary tool to have in any small animal veterinary hospital (general, emergency, or multi-specialty practice). The ARVC/ECDVI recently released a consensus statement on standardized small animal abdominal ultrasound examination, which provides a blueprint for veterinary sonographers to confidently collect a minimum database of images for thorough examination of the abdomen.

This virtual course is aimed at the intermediate sonographer who already has ultrasound in their practice and has knowledge of knobology/image optimization and basic ultrasound techniques. Weekly lectures will focus on complete scanning of organs/organ systems in the abdomen and neck with review of common structural abnormalities identified in small animal ultrasound. We will be challenging you to think critically about abnormal findings and interpreting them in each individual case. Case examples with additional tissue sampling for definitive diagnosis will be provided.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • collect images for a complete ultrasound examination of organ systems in the canine and feline abdomen and neck.
  • identify and interpret structural abnormalities on ultrasound in these organs.
  • know how and when to recommend additional tissue sampling for definitive diagnosis.
  • critically evaluate ultrasound findings in light of other diagnostic tests and individual case presentations.

Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians interested in small animal ultrasound - image interpretation, common pathology/diseases and how to obtain definitive diagnoses.
Credit Approval: This course is approved for 8 hours of continuing education credit by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 20-1025494)
