Course Information:
This course is for veterinarians who are interested in building a solid foundation interpreting cardiopulmonary abnormalities in thoracic radiographs of dogs and cats. The course will cover anatomy of the thorax, cardiac interpretation, pulmonary patterns such as interstitial, bronchial and alveolar. By the end of the course the participant should be able to understand the normal anatomy of the thorax, recognize interstitial, bronchial, and alveolar patterns and describe these patterns to aid case management.


Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • Recognize the different types of interstitial patterns
  • Understand naming conventions to assist with the description of an interstitial pattern
  • Describe interstitial patterns in order to assist with the creation of a diagnostic and therapeutic plan
  • Recognize bronchial and aveolar patterns
  • Describe bronchial and aveolar patterns in order to assist
  • with the creation of a diagnostic and therapeutic plan
  • Understand the utility of several methods of cardiac interpretation
  • Recognize the limitations of cardiac interpretation on radiographs


Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians interested in thoracic cardio/pulmonary radiology.
Accreditation: This course is approved for 7.5 hours of continuing education credit by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 20-953974)

Week 3 (Real Time Session January 30, 2023): Pulmonary Patterns - Aveolar

Week 4 (Real Time Session February 6, 2023): Cardiac Interpretation

Week 5 (Real Time Session February 13, 2023): Putting It All Together
